Our Story
Angie’s Hugglers has been set up to provide oncology patients with the opportunity to have a teddy bear companion given to them, in the hope that this new companion will make their journey through treatment a little easier.
Angie was a patient at the Springfield oncology unit for 18 months, and received treatment for breast cancer for 3 years in total. Angie had always had a love for teddy bears, her first two childhood bears were her most prized possessions. But two bears weren’t enough for Angie, she had a huge collection of bears - including a full set of Care Bears - and struggled to leave any charity shop without giving a home to at least one of their bears.
When Angie was diagnosed with breast cancer she took huge comfort in having a constant companion - in Angie’s case it was ‘Pete bear’ - who attended every single consultation and treatment session. Pete was even able to attend radiotherapy sessions and CT and PET scans, providing Angie with support when everyone else had to leave the room, Angie was therefore never alone, Angie took great comfort from this, our hope is that other patients may get similar benefits from one of ‘Angie’s hugglers’.
